About Me

My name is Carol Greener and I’ve been running playgroups for 21 years. I’m also wife to Mike and mom to five girls – the older three are adults now and out of the house. My younger two daughters are in school and very much still in the house!

I absolutely love working with children and my years’ of experience, both as a mom and as a playgroup teacher, have only grown my passion for seeing them thrive. My greatest joy is getting to know each child, bonding with them and giving them love and attention.  Being a small playgroup I am able to do this and to focus on their individual needs.

I enjoy building relationships with the parents and give regular feedback, so that we can work together for the benefit of each child.

My goal is to give the children a happy and positive first experience of school.

How It Works

Location

The playgroup is at my home in Die Boord, Stellenbosch. There’s an indoor area where we play, as well as a big, enclosed back garden with swings, trampoline, jungle gym and a sandpit.

Terms

The playgroup runs from Mondays to Thursdays and generally follows the dates of the government school terms, to a maximum of 10 weeks per term.

Hours

We start at 09:00 and finish at 12:00. By prior arrangement, including a small fee, a 30 minute early arrival or late pick up can be organised.

Ages

I take children from 18 months to 4 years (English and Afrikaans) and I so enjoy seeing the different ages interact and learn from each other. Your child doesn’t need to be potty trained – I’m happy to change nappies!

Fees

The fees per term for 2024 are:

1 day a week: R2,400

2 days a week: R4,200

3 days a week: R5,700

I ask an additional fee of R40 per ½ hour for any extra time (08:30 – 09:00 or 12:00 – 12:30). The fees are payable in advance within the first two weeks of each new term, either in cash to me in person or by electronic transfer.

I can’t offer refunds for any mornings that your child doesn’t attend and I ask for 5 weeks’ notice if you plan to take your child out of the playgroup or half a term’s fee if you need to leave immediately. I require a deposit of 25% of a term’s fee in order to secure your child’s place in the playgroup. This will then be deducted from the first fee. If you’ve paid the deposit and are no longer able to bring your child to the playgroup, your deposit (minus a R50 admin fee) will be refunded as soon as your child’s place has been filled.

What We Do

Our mornings loosely follow a routine, usually around a theme, and include:

  • Free play using the toys inside and equipment outside
  • Group play, which helps develop vital social skills
  • Music and singing with active, age-appropriate songs
  • Storytime, to help to instill a love for books and learning
  • Basic learning such as colours, shapes, animals
  • Creative activities and art, including drawing, colouring, painting and glueing
  • Social skills, such as sharing, being kind and playing together
  • We have a healthy snack at around 10:30, which you’ll need to pack for your child.

Being a small group (usually up to 6 children), the children usually all play together no matter what age they are, and become firm friends!

Once we’ve had a chat, you are very welcome to visit the playgroup. (In fact, it’s something I’d recommend, if  at all possible.) At this point I’ll also send you the link to the application form, which you’ll need to complete.
